About our family
I don't live in an RV. I don't homeschool my kids. I just live a standard life.
I am a part time E.R. Nurse in a level one truma center, and my Husband is a pilot. Having quirky schedules may be difficult, but it has allowed us to have the time available to travel , even if it is just for a few days. This was especially helpful before the kids were deep into school, however we don't hesitate to pull them out for a day ( or two, or a week) if an opportunity for a trip comes along.
Having a husband for a pilot lets us travel more economically, although flying standby is not as easy as people think. Often it involves being at the airport at 6 am and waiting through several flights leaving , sitting at the airport until we can all get seats. Sometimes you get creative, like getting home from Washington DC via NY and Kansas City. All in all though, it has allowed us to travel to some cool places. You quickly master the art of packing everything you need for a week or two in a carry on, and you get creative with tiny bottles that are under 3 ounces.
We do drive also, and have done a few cross country trips, both in the car and with my Husband's parents in their RV. If you get kids used to traveling early, car rides are a snap.
Our boys are now 9 and 13 , and they are masters at long car trips and getting through airport security.
We like museums, fun roadside attractions, nature, camping, and oh yes - NATIONAL PARKS!
We have been to 30, and there are more to go !
